Kathye Mendes - Painter
Kathye J. Mendes, and her husband, Don, left their native state of California in 1974 for a three month vacation. They never returned to live. After spending 10 years traveling the states, they eventually settled in southwest Virginia.
Kathye discovered her artistic talent in the 1980’s after taking a couple of art classes. “It opened up a whole new world to me. I lose the concept of time when painting. Becoming an artist has made me view what I see so differently. Now, colors, shadows and shapes jump out at me. The detail of life has become so alive. With each new painting I learn something new”.
Kathye has over 20 years of painting experience. From 1990 to 2000 art festivals and exhibitions became a way of life. She now elects to spend more time in her studio painting, commission work, portraits and custom framing. Kathye’s subject matter varies from people or animal portraits, landscapes, floral to still-life. Her passion is to capture three dimensional beauty of nature on a two-dimensional canvas. Kathye creates her work using a variety of mediums including acrylics, oils and pastels. She frames her own work as well as providing framing for others. Giclee prints are available.
“I feel a piece of art reduces to the contrast of light, the use of color, and the direction of the stroke. The manipulation of these aspects has always intrigued me. Creativity is the expression of my soul. To create the emotional feeling within myself as well as the viewer is my goal. Time has no relevance when I am in the deep, rhythmic zone of painting. The joy of creating and learning from each piece has only intensified. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it.”
