Lynn Donihe - Mosaic Artist
Lynn's mosaics take the ancient art form to new levels...wearable art! Stunningly beautiful and skillfully crafted belt buckles with intricate, inlaid ceramics set her work apart from more traditional mosaic forms.
Lynn's background is in Geography and Cartography from Penn State, but she began focusing on Mosaics about five years ago. Inspired by tiny bits of beauty seen in unexpected places - cracked sidewalks, timeworn surfaces, textures, patterns and the powerful visual effects of color combination - Lynn seeks to use her tiles in unexpected ways in her weaving patterns and geometric designs and enjoys cutting and shaping tiles for use in floral and abstract designs. Each tiny tile is placed meticulously using tweezers.
The primary materials used in her work are tiny ceramic tiles handmade in Morocco, but she also uses other handmade tiles, bits of glass and foraged stone that she cuts to size with a traditional hammer and hardie.
Lynn lives in Roanoke where she's excited to have moved her creative process off her dining room table and into a real studio in the Grandin Village area.
